  • World debuts: Astra GTC, Zafira Tourer and the new Combo
  • Surprise: Sexy experimental vehicle continues Opel's pioneering spirit
  • Market launch: Electric Ampera at dealerships soon
  • Efficiency highlights: Premiere for seven new ecoFLEX models

Rüsselsheim. Four world premieres are in the Opel spotlight at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main (September 15 - 25). For the first time, Opel presents the new Astra GTC compact coupé, the new versatility master Zafira Tourer and the next generation compact Combo van at its newly designed booth D 09 in Hall 8.

The highlight of the press conference at the Opel booth on September 13 at 9:45 a.m. is the unveiling of an experimental vehicle exploring a new interpretation of mobility. In addition, the series production Ampera, the first electric vehicle in Europe suitable for everyday use, is showcased just before it arrives at dealerships. Opel also demonstrates that conventional powertrains still have fuel-saving potential without compromising driving fun with the expanded ecoFLEX model portfolio. Seven new highlights of the Opel ecoFLEX will be presented in Frankfurt.

Astra GTC, Zafira Tourer and Combo take center stage for first time The new Astra GTC's stunning design promises striking driving dynamics. Thanks to its exclusive high-performance front suspension (HiPerStrut) Opel´s sharp compact coupé delivers ultimate driving precision. At launch a range of gasoline and diesel engines with outputs between 88 kW/120 hp and 132 kW/180 hp is available.

The new Zafira Tourer defines new standards for interior versatility and atmosphere with its completely re-designed Flex7 seating concept. The "Lounge on wheels" transports Insignia values and premium qualities, innovative technologies and sculptural, dynamic design to the monocab segment.

The new Combo is the versatile passenger car-van for work, family and leisure. It comes with six engines: four diesel, one gasoline and a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) unit. The next generation compact Combo is available with five or seven seats, in two wheelbases and with a glazed body or as a panel van.

Electric vehicle Ampera heading towards market launch The Ampera is the first electric vehicle from a European manufacturer to enable "go anywhere at any time" mobility and will be available at dealerships at the end of the year. It fits perfectly to this year's IAA motto "Zukunft serienmäßig" which can be translated into "future comes as standard". A 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack feeds the 111 kW/150 hp electric drive unit. Depending on driving technique, terrain and temperature, it delivers between 40 and 80 km of pure electric operation with zero emissions - perfectly sufficient for the majority of daily drives in Europe. Thanks to the range extender, journeys of more than 500 km without needing to stop at a filling station are possible.

Seven new ecoFLEX highlights from the Agila to the Insignia Opel debuts seven new ecoFLEX models in Frankfurt that belong to the very best in their respective class with regards to fuel consumption and CO2 emissions: Agila 1.0 (gasoline, 109 g/km CO2), Meriva 1.3 CDTI (109 g/km CO2), Astra 1.7 CDTI (99 g/km CO2), Insignia 1.4 Turbo (gasoline, 134 g/km CO2) and Insignia 2.0 CDTI (115 g/km CO2) - as well as the ecoFLEX versions of the premiering Astra GTC and Zafira Tourer. Many of the over 60 ecoFLEX variants can meanwhile be ordered with Start/Stop technology. Developed by Opel, the Start/Stop system will be available in 34 vehicle-engine combinations by the spring of 2012.
