Ladies and gentlemen, the Audi Sport quattro laserlight concept. A world premiere at CES 2014.
This concept car is our technological spearhead. Let me give you a sense of the power we have on this stage. This car combines a powerful 110 kilowatt electric engine with a V8 engine.
Together, they perform at 515 kilowatts – equivalent to 700 horsepower.
In one body, you have a muscle car - and an efficient plug-in hybrid. We use lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, to help this car go more than 90 miles on a single gallon of gas. This is a bold step forward to carbon dioxide reduction.
As a synonym for the innovation power of Audi, this concept car has everything you may expect from automotive electronics and human-machine interface systems for safer and more convenient driving. Even more: this car would be able to come on stage in a piloted driving mode – thanks to the zFAS as the brain of the car.
The zFAS integrates the vehicle’s long range radar, its mid-range radar, its video camera and top view cameras, its laser scanner, data from the navigation system and other connected car technologies as well as ultra-sonic data from the front and sides of the car.
This tells you about the tremendous technical complexity of the zFAS.
When you look at the Audi Sport quattro laserlight concept, you must admit it is a true eye-catcher. Its eyes combine LED headlamps with bright laser light. And because we knew this glance into the future has to compete with the lights of “The Strip” in Las Vegas - we made it even more stunning.
For many years, we have pioneered new lighting technologies. Just some months ago, we introduced Matrix LED headlamps in our Audi A8 sedan. It’s the most advanced lighting technology currently available for series production.
Matrix LEDs are designed for daylight quality. Our software is managing each LED individually and turns off any light that would dazzle oncoming drivers, bikers, or pedestrians.
Looking forward, Matrix LEDs will become available to even more Audi models and more countries including the US.
The future –and that’s what we talk about at CES- is in laser light. Laser light is even sharper, safer and more efficient. And that’s what you see here on stage and tomorrow at our booth.
These headlamps are three times stronger than LEDs. The light beam extends the length of five football fields! Later this year, Audi’s new 2014 Le Mans race car will feature laser light. And we will be the first car brand to put laser light into production.
At Audi, we invented the modular longitudinal matrix system. That sounds complex.
Actually, it is about reducing complexity and increasing flexibility. Very important when youwant to successfully develop and manufacture cars. First, the matrix system allows for streamlined and efficient production. And second, it allows for flexibility when bringing the latest technologies to our cars.
Let me give you an example: When new electronics enter the market, we are able to upgrade the hardware and software of your Modular Infotainment system.
So it is easy to keep up with the latest infotainment and assistance services. In other words: When German engineering meets Silicon Valley, you get the kind of “user experience” only Audi can offer.
That’s what we mean when we talk about synchronizing the innovation cycles in electronics and automotive. And that’s why we and other leading automotive companies joined forces with technology leaders Google and NVIDIA.
A few hours ago, we announced the Open Automotive Alliance, a global common ecosystem to bring smart technologies to the car and make vehicular electronics even safer and more intuitive to use.

Today TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) unveiled the GR Super Sport Concept at the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
First revealed at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon in January, this next-generation hyper car incorporates hybrid electric technology honed through Toyota's participation in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Meanwhile, the development of Toyota's next generation of super sports car has started. It takes the cutting-edge hybrid electric systems and fuel economy technology that the TGR WEC team has tested and refined during the past six years in WEC, and showcases them in one superb package.
The GR Super Sport Concept is powered by a V6 twin turbocharger and the Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R), delivering a combined output of 1,000 DIN hp, which it shares with the TS050 Hybrid LMP1 race car.
